Is that mani-pedi your treating yourself to ok?

A Manicure and Pedicure treatment can be a relaxing treat, but you may be exposing yourself to potentially harmful chemicals.

That "nail salon funk" when you first enter the spa is the first sign of toxicity.

The fumes you are inhaling come from a group of ingredients known as the "toxic trio": dibutyl phthalate, toluene and formaldehyde.

All three of these toxins are absorbed through the skin and nails, as well as through the lungs when you breathe them in.

Therefore, its a double risk. Not just the nail polishes, removers should also be non-toxic.

Make sure you use less-harsh, Acetone-free polish remover.

By choosing natural, non-toxic artificial nails, you not only avoid toxins, but you keep you nail bed also healthy.

Artificial ( acrylic) nails, and more permanent polish (gel-based) can cause temporary to permanent nail plate damage as well as put you at more risk of fungal infections.

These toxins are linked to numerous health concerns like cancer, asthma, endocrine (hormone) disruption, organ toxicity, eczema and more.

WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR MANI/PEDI APPOINTMENT...

Optional according to your preferences

Hand/Foot Soak for water, your own body lotion...

Try something simple but effective like:

🌱BootieButtah Bath Tea w/Magnesium flakes

💋BootieButtah Organic Sugar Scrub!

🙌🏾5-Free or 10-Free Nail Polish Remover

Check out our sample 5oz. sugar scrub and body balm. www.BootieButtah.com

Ensure the remover you choose does not contain:

🔥Benzophenone, Acetone, Fragrance, Parfum/Perfume, DMDM Hydantoin, Formaldehyde, D&C Red No. 17,

CI 17200/Red33, CI 2610/Red17, etc. the list could go on.

👣Flip flops. Do we really need more foam? I keep a spare pair in my car just in case I have the wrong shoes on when I arrive at my appointment.

👀Advise the nail technicians ahead of time, and don't let anyone bully you into using their products out of convenience!

When searching for products to bring...

I recommend the

ThinkDirty App:

Think Dirty – Shop Clean by Think Dirty Inc. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/think-dirty-shop-clean/id687176839

You simply scan the bar code of the product in question and it will pull up the rating from 1-10 and list all the ingredients and what the concerns are for each.

Yours in grand self care!
